Basketball Recap: Monsignor Pace Starts Season with Loss on the Road + How To Watch

Monsignor Pace had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mater Academy Charter Lions on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 66-37 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andres Lopez, who posted 13 points and eight boards. Teagan Jordan was another key player, putting up three points and 11 rebounds.

Leading Mater Academy Charter to victory were Nolan Vancott and Juan Maldanado. Vancott went 5-for-12 en route to 14 points, while Maldanado earned six points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Sean Leon, who put up six points and three steals.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monsignor Pace will square off against Cardinal Newman at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mater Academy Charter, they will face off against Ferguson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
