Baseball Recap: Whitehall Comes Up Short

Whitehall had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it four. They came up short against the Salem Generals, falling 13-1. If the Railroaders were looking for revenge after losing 3-1 to the Generals when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Salem, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.4 runs.

For Salem's part, the team relied heavily on Stephen Yakubec, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Yakubec has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Baylor, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whitehall will face off against Fort Ann at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Railroaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Salem, they will challenge Corinth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Generals are facing the Riverhawks at the right time seeing as the Riverhawks are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
