Basketball Preview: Pieper Warriors vs. Smithson Valley Rangers
Pieper has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Smithson Valley Rangers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pieper focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
Even though Pieper has not done well against the Antlers recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Pieper came out on top against the Antlers by a score of 62-51.
Pieper relied on the efforts of MAYSON THOMAS, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds, and DONOVAN BESCH, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists. THOMAS hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of TUCKER VOIGT, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Smithson Valley came up short against the Chargers on Friday and fell 51-38. While losing is never fun, Smithson Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Chargers are ranked 63rd).
Pieper's win bumped their record up to 19-11. As for Smithson Valley, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-17.
Pieper strolled past the Rangers in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 64-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pieper since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
