Baseball Recap: Miramonte Starts off Right with Win over Sonoma Valley

Miramonte had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against the Sonoma Valley Dragons by a score of 4-1. For the Matadors, this counts as revenge for the 8-3 victory the Dragons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Austin Bilello made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Bilello was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Kobe Wong and David Leibowitz did most of the damage at the plate: Wong scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Leibowitz scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sonoma Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Miramonte will challenge Pittsburg at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sonoma Valley, they will face off against Albany at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
