Preview: Xaverian Clippers vs. Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers
Xaverian and Mt. St. Michael Academy are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2018, but not for long. The Xaverian Clippers will square off against the Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New York (Xaverian is ranked 157th, while Mt. St. Michael Academy is ranked 140th).
With a playoff game on the line, Xaverian rose to the challenge on Saturday. They walked away with a 21-14 victory over Holy Cross. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Xaverian.
Xaverian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chris Duffy out in front who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jude Vanooyen, who threw for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Mt. St. Michael Academy beat Kennedy Catholic on Saturday by the very same score they won with last week: 26-12. Mt. St. Michael Academy pushed the score to 20-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Kennedy Catholic cut but never quite recovered from.
Their wins bumped Xaverian to 6-4 and Mt. St. Michael Academy to 8-2.
Xaverian and Mt. St. Michael Academy were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in October, but Xaverian suffered an agonizing 14-13 defeat. Can Xaverian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
