Softball Recap: Independence/Gilmanton Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Independence/Gilmanton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Augusta Beavers 2-1. This was a revenge game for the Indees: when they faced off against the Beavers last Friday, they had to take a 7-3 defeat.

Nora Schank was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over eight innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Schank wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hadley Sylla, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Independence/Gilmanton is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Augusta, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5.

Independence/Gilmanton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Augusta, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Stanley-Boyd at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Beavers 2.8, the Orioles 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
