Softball Game Preview: Ponaganset Chieftains vs. East Providence Townies

The Ponaganset Chieftains are taking a road trip to square off against the East Providence Townies at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Ponaganset is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Ponaganset is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Chariho, who was ranked fourth at the time (Ponaganset was ranked 17th). The Chieftains fell 8-3 to the Chargers on Thursday.

Maia Salvo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, East Providence might've scored the first runs on Wednesday, but it was La Salle Academy who claimed the real prize. The Townies came up short against the Rams, falling 10-3.

Audrey Bernard and Nethania Figueroa did some serious damage despite the final result: Bernard went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Figueroa went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Ella Grimley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

East Providence dropped their record down to 4-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Ponaganset, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
