Baseball Game Preview: Nogales Nobles vs. Schurr Spartans

The Nogales Nobles will head out to square off against the Schurr Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither Nogales nor Schurr posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Duarte hit Nogales with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Nobles took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons.

Nathan Lopez put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Lopez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Carlos Cruz was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Benji Garcia was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, Schurr fell victim to Montebello and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oilers. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

David Torres was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Schurr saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Lu, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Nogales' record now sits at 7-12. As for Schurr, their record is now 9-13.

Nogales might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Schurr in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Can the Nobles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
