League recap: Linden wins, gets boost in standings

Mid-State 38 - Watchung recap November 5, 2013

Linden was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in Mid-State 38 - Watchung. The Tigers vanquished Watchung Hills Regional 17-10 earlier in the week.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Ridge beat Hunterdon Central 27-13. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Red Devils.

Ridge's dynamic duo of Conor Hughes and Ryan Bell proved to be unstoppable against the Red Devils, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hughes threw for 87 yards and 1 touchdown and Bell had 41 yards receiving. Matthew Soulas helped Ridge's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 31 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Chris Chugunov of Montgomery is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,356. He has also thrown 7 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nick Franzese. The Ridge star has 31 catches for 543 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Ridge takes on second place Watchung Hills Regional. Bill Tracy's team defeated Hunterdon Central last week, while the Warriors fell to Linden.

Immaculata moved up to 56 from 86 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Mid-State 38 - Watchung. The Spartans climbed the ranks as a result of topping the Cougars 60-28.
