Basketball Preview: Lewis County Lions vs. West Carter Comets
Lewis County has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the West Carter Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kentucky (Lewis County is ranked 209th, while the Comets are ranked 222nd).
Last Saturday, Lewis County lost to the Bulldogs at home by a decisive 71-54 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lewis County in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.
Meanwhile, West Carter's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Russell, falling 91-52. West Carter was down 72-39 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Lewis County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for West Carter, they dropped their record down to 7-13 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Lewis County took their win against the Comets in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 61-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lewis County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
