Recap: Pleasanton Eagles vs. La Vernia Bears
The Pleasanton Eagles''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 40-7 defeat at the hands of La Vernia. While losing is never fun, Pleasanton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 683rd, while La Vernia is ranked 255th).
La Vernia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keegan Hajek, who threw for 190 yards and five touchdowns on only 12 passes. Colten Schmid also helped out with an impressive 91 receiving yards.
La Vernia's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Henry Dirks and his two sacks.
Pleasanton's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Jourdanton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for La Vernia, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pleasanton will challenge Floresville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for La Vernia, they will head out on the road to face off against Jones at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
