Basketball Recap: Seven Carter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gateway over Thornton

Gateway lost against Thornton back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Gateway Olympians took a 66-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thornton Trojans. While the Olympians didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Trojans 21-15 in the first quarter.

Several Olympians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Seven Carter, who went 5 for 12 en route to 14 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Nickalus Smith, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 16 points.

Clayton Jones was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 37 points and 16 boards for Thornton. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least a third of Thornton's points. Andrew Danso was another key player, going 7 for 13 en route to 15 points.

Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Thornton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

Gateway has already played their next contest, a 62-46 win against Skyview on the 23rd. As for Thornton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 40-35 victory against Aurora Central on the 23rd.
