Basketball Game Preview: Pender Pendragons vs. Stanton Mustangs

The Pender Pendragons will take on the Stanton Mustangs in a holiday battle at at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pender has five straight victories, Stanton has 13 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Pender will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Humphrey-Lindsay, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Pender blew past Humphrey-Lindsay 50-30 on Tuesday.

Pender got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Owen Kneifl out in front who posted eight points and five rebounds. Ryan Krueger was another key player, putting up eight points.

Pender smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Stanton lost to Wakefield on the road by a 52-36 margin on Friday.

Pender's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Stanton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Everything came up roses for Pender against Stanton in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 61-18 win. In that game, Pender amassed a halftime lead of 30-6, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
