Softball Recap: Whitewright Triumphs

Whitewright had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 9-18 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tioga Bulldogs 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since May 2, 2025.

Leah Dawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Courtney Brumley was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Joslyn Jones was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Tioga, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Tioga's side, Kyndall Whitley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Skilar Hodge, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Whitewright will square off against Dodd City at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.33 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Tioga does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
