Football Recap: Valley Christian Warriors vs. Archbishop Mitty Monarchs

Valley Christian had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-3 to make it six. They came up short against the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs, falling 32-7. The matchup was a close 9-7 at the break, but unfortunately for the Warriors it sure didn't stay that way.

Despite the defeat, Valley Christian had strong showings from Riley Mcelvane, who picked up 113 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Rome Leota-Pritchard, who threw for 176 yards and one TD while completing 83.3% of his passes.

As for Archbishop Mitty, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.5 points on average over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Archbishop Mitty to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joseph Engin, who threw for 161 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 50 yards and one score. Those 50 rushing yards gave Engin a new career-high. Archbishop Mitty also got a significant boost from Lazaro Faraj-Washington, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 108 yards.
