Baseball Recap: Liberty Charter Has No Trouble Against El Cajon Valley

Liberty Charter's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the El Cajon Valley Braves as the Liberty Charter Lions made off with a 27-1 win. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 10-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Jacob Jones made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Jones was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Andruw Godinez was a standout: he scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Hays, who scored three runs while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances.

Liberty Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .705. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Cajon Valley only posted an OBP of .389.

The victory got Liberty Charter back to even at 1-1. As for El Cajon Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Liberty Charter has already played their next match, a 6-1 defeat against Coastal Academy on the 4th. El Cajon Valley will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Mountain Empire at 3:30 p.m. on March 11th.
