Soccer Game Preview: Hopewell vs. Matoaca

Hopewell is 1-9 against Matoaca since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Hopewell's last four matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Hopewell took a eight-goal defeat the last time they faced off against Meadowbrook, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils won by a goal and slipped past the Monarchs 2-1. That's two games straight that Hopewell have won by just one goal.

Meanwhile, Matoaca won against Meadowbrook on Thursday with two goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Tuesday. The Warriors came out on top in a nail-biter against Petersburg, sneaking past 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for Matoaca.

Hopewell's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Matoaca, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Hopewell might still be hurting after the 6-0 loss they got from Matoaca in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
