Basketball Game Preview: Howard Lions vs. Northeast Eagles

The Howard Lions will challenge the Northeast Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Howard's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.

Last Thursday, Howard had just enough and edged out Atholton 70-67. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won five in a row.

Griffin Garner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds. What's more, he also posted a 56% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alex Reeb, who posted ten points and five assists.

Howard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Northeast was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 71-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arundel.

Northeast's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Howard, their win bumped their record up to 15-6.

Howard came out on top in a nail-biter against Northeast in their previous meeting back in December of 2018, sneaking past 57-55. Will Howard repeat their success, or does Northeast have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
