Basketball Game Preview: Carver Panthers vs. Therrell Panthers

The Carver Panthers will face off against the Therrell Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

Carver is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Holy Innocents Episcopal on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Carver took a blow against Holy Innocents Episcopal, falling 89-43. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-22.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jacory Pickett, who posted seven points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Ezekiel Ferguson, who earned six points.

Meanwhile, Therrell made easy work of Washington on Friday and carried off a 77-56 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Therrell's win came from a few key players Carver will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Torey Baisden, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 15 points. The contest was his third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Antwon Young, who went 5 of 7 en route to 15 points and four steals.

Therrell's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Carver, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine games, which is still a better percentage than their 4-15 record this season.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Carver has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Therrell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Carver might still be hurting after the 79-58 defeat they got from Therrell in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Therrell's Morion Mcwhorter, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards. Now that Carver knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
