Recap: Memorial Red Devils vs. Champion Golden Flashes

The Memorial Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by Champion on the road and fell 65-12. While losing is never fun, Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 773rd, while Champion is ranked 269th).

Isabella Meyer was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals for Champion. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Warzala, who scored eight points along with seven assists and four steals.

Memorial's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.2 points per game. As for Champion, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Memorial will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Brookfield at 6:15 p.m. on January 29th. As for Champion, they will take on Crestview at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Crestview is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
