Basketball Game Preview: Long Reach Lightning vs. Mt. Hebron Vikings

The Long Reach Lightning will head out to challenge the Mt. Hebron Vikings at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Long Reach is headed into the match having just posted their biggest victory since February 9, 2024 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 68-47 margin over Chesapeake Science Point.

Mt. Hebron has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 81-77 to Hammond, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vikings came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 188th).

Long Reach's win bumped their record up to 5-16. As for Mt. Hebron, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-4.

Long Reach was able to grind out a solid victory over Mt. Hebron in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 76-64. The rematch might be a little tougher for Long Reach since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
