Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Windham RVT

Windham RVT had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Grasso Tech Eagles as they made off with a 24-12 victory. That's two games straight that the Mighty Tigers have won by exactly 12 runs.

Taya Hunting was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Genna Sargent was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Cassie Descheneaux was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Windham RVT's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.7 runs over those games. As for Grasso Tech, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Coming up, Windham RVT is taking a road trip to challenge East Windsor at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.78 runs per game on average), something the Mighty Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Grasso Tech, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Phoenix have now posted at least ten runs in their last eight matches.
