Softball Game Preview: Northeastern Bobcats vs. Kennard-Dale Rams

Northeastern is a perfect 3-0 against Kennard-Dale since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Bobcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Northeastern has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with five straight defeats, while Kennard-Dale will come in with seven straight wins.

It was a proper cat-fight when Northeastern faced off against Red Lion on Wednesday. The Bobcats lost 22-3 to the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bobcats have suffered against the Lions since April 21, 2015.

Kaitlyn Fauth was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Kennard-Dale ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Pequea Valley 5-4.

Taylor Rinaudo and Taryn Ashenfelter were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Rinaudo pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Ashenfelter struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Rinaudo went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, while Ashenfelter scored a run while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Serruto, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Karli Bocek also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Kennard-Dale's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Northeastern, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Northeastern took their victory against Kennard-Dale in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
