Volleyball Preview: Wimberley Texans vs. Cuero Gobblers

Wimberley has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will head out to challenge the Cuero Gobblers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, everything went Wimberley's way against Lockhart as Wimberley made off with a 3-0 victory.

The 3-0 doesn't show just how dominant Wimberley was: they took every set by at least ten points. After all that action, the final score was 25-14, 25-15, 25-8.

Wimberley can attribute much of their success to Skylar Herring, who had two aces and 14 assists, and Addie Laney, who had four aces. That's the most aces Laney has posted since back in October of 2023.

Meanwhile, Cuero had already won two in a row, and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Flyers by a score of 3-1.

Cuero was actually outscored in aggregate across those four sets (89-88), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-23, 13-25, 25-19.

Wimberley's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-2. As for Cuero, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season.

Wimberley was able to grind out a solid victory over Cuero when the teams last played back in October of 2023, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wimberley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
