Basketball Game Preview: Fort Chiswell Pioneers vs. Narrows Green Waves

The Fort Chiswell Pioneers and the Narrows Green Waves will round out the year against one another at on Friday. Fort Chiswell knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Narrows likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Fort Chiswell came up short against Carroll County and fell 76-66. The contest marked the Pioneers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Fort Chiswell saw an underclassman step up: freshman Owen Jackson posted 16 points and seven boards. Brayden Billings was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Narrows made easy work of Galax on Wednesday and carried off a 71-50 win. The Green Waves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 21 points or more this season.

Narrows' win came from a few key players Fort Chiswell will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cooper Helvey, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Owens, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Fort Chiswell's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-2. As for Narrows, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Fort Chiswell came up short against Narrows when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 65-59. Can Fort Chiswell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
