Baseball Recap: Cannon County Lions vs. Forrest Rockets
Cannon County had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 9-9 to make it four. They lost 12-2 to the Forrest Rockets. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Lions couldn't push the score so high this time.
Cannon County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bennett Kauffman, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Forrest, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games.
On Forrest's side, Reid Gentry spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Gentry has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Forrest got a massive performance out of Kason Fuller, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Fuller has posted since back in March. Branham Haynes was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases.
While Cannon County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
