Basketball Game Preview: Coalinga Horned Toads vs. Shafter Generals

The Coalinga Horned Toads and the Shafter Generals will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest, having both just played.

Coalinga is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Granite Hills just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 50-45 to the Grizzlies. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Horned Toads came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 583rd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shafter). They secured a 63-57 W over Golden West on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Generals.

Coalinga's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Shafter, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.

Coalinga was able to grind out a solid victory over Shafter in their previous meeting last Tuesday, winning 54-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Horned Toads since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
