Basketball Game Preview: Economedes Jaguars vs. Edinburg Bobcats

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Economedes Jaguars face off against the Edinburg Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday... Economedes has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Economedes took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Pharr-San Juan-Alamo with points to spare, taking the game 59-42. The victory was some much needed relief for the Jaguars as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Economedes' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathaniel De La Garza, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 18 points and four steals. That's the most steals De La Garza has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Medrano, who posted 11 points along with six assists and five steals.

Meanwhile, Edinburg came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Coyotes by a score of 69-60. Given the Bobcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 354th, while the Coyotes are ranked 877th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edinburg is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Economedes, they now have a winning record of 15-14.

Economedes came up short against Edinburg in their previous matchup on January 10th, falling 57-50. Can Economedes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
