Baseball Recap: Argo Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Argo hadn't done well against Lemont recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Argonauts sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Lemont HS. This was payback for the Argonauts, who suffered a 13-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Matt Mateyack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Argo is 6-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-18 otherwise.

At the plate, Valente Melero was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Argo moved to 12-20 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Lemont, they moved to 26-6-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Argo will face off against Evergreen Park at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Argonauts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Lemont, they will take on Maine South in a tournament on Friday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Lemont HS surely won't give up without a fight.
