Basketball Recap: Galena Comes Up Short

Galena lost against Damonte Ranch back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Galena Grizzlies fell 62-52 to the Damonte Ranch Mustangs.

When it comes to explaining why Galena lost, don't look at Zakery Smrt. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-11 to rack up 19 points and four steals. What's more, Smrt also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ben Imse, who posted 11 points.

It was another big night for Drew Dodson, who went 9-for-12 on his way to 26 points for Damonte Ranch. Jeriah Macias was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Galena has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 14 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Damonte Ranch, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-8.

Galena has already played their next game, a 66-29 loss against Bishop Manogue on the 11th. As for Damonte Ranch, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-52 victory against McQueen on the 11th.
