Baseball Recap: Fort Morgan Starts off Right with Win over Wheat Ridge

Fort Morgan had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Wheat Ridge Farmers 10-2 on Thursday. The Mustangs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 23, 2024.

Cooper Chisum made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Chase Prouty was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Samson Ortega, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.

Fort Morgan has already played their next matchup, a 14-0 win against Skyview on the 8th. As for Wheat Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 24-1 defeat against Northfield on the 10th.
