6A Region 8 recap Oct. 9, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Decatur, who took down 37th ranked Decatur, 24-10.

James Clemens moved up to 279 from 316 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 6A Region 8. The Jets climbed the ranks as a result of a 42-30 win over the Jets.

The Red Raiders' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jackson Fite threw for 119 yards and Harold Blades had 51 yards receiving. On the ground Josh Matthews chipped in 68 yards. Jordan Tibbs helped Decatur's passing attack out by catching two balls for 36 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Fite and Matthews Decatur has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Fite leads the league in passing with 467 yards, while Matthews has rushed for 486 yards this season. Hazel Green's Christopher J. Ungacta leads the league in receiving yards with 200 on 13 catches.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when James Clemens takes on Austin. The Jets are in eighth place, while the Black Bears are in first place.

Austin extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Trojans, 23-13. The win marks sixth in a row for the Jeremy Perkins' team.
