Austin Nelson Delivers Best Performance of Season

Austin Nelson produced his most outstanding game to date while leading West Prairie/Southeastern to the win on Friday. Nelson rushed for 205 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now rushed for 112 or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

If history really does repeat itself, Nelson might just drop another big game when he faces off against Peoria Heights on Friday. Nelson rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries the last time he and Peoria Heights duked it out back in September of 2023.

Leelynd Durbin posted a new career-high in rushing yards on Friday. He rushed for 247 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. The performance once again pushed his average rushing yardage north of 100 yards per game (114.7). He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.

Flanagan/Woodland pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Durbin and Flanagan/Woodland will face off against Ridgewood [AlWood/Cambridge] at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Seth Jones posted a new career-high in rushing yards on Friday. He rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns.

On the season, Jones has averaged 98.3 passing yards per game. That doesn't tell the whole story though: at this point last year, he had one rushing touchdown. This year he is already up to nine.

Thanks in part to Matt Whitman, West Prairie/Southeastern said goodbye to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season. Whitman was dynamite on Friday, rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 34 yards and a touchdown.

This year, Whitman has thrown 2 touchdowns while averaging 26.5 passing yards per game.
