Basketball Recap: Westfield Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Westfield won the last time they faced Hamilton Heights and things went their way on Friday too. The Westfield Shamrocks enjoyed a cozy 75-57 win over the Hamilton Heights Huskies. Given the Shamrocks' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Huskies are ranked 125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Durante Morton, who went 6-for-7 on his way to 19 points and five assists. That's the most assists Morton has posted since back in February of 2024. Logan Sumpter also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Morton wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Westfield was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They racked up nine more assists than Hamilton Heights' also-impressive total of 12.

When it comes to explaining why Hamilton Heights lost, don't look at Gavin Saunders. Despite the final result, he went 5-for-12 en route to 18 points. Saunders is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 43% in the last seven games he's played. Jack Kakasuleff was another key player, putting up 12 points.

The victory (which was Westfield's third in a row) raised their record to 15-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. As for Hamilton Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.

Westfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-31 win against University on the 18th. As for Hamilton Heights, they have also already played their next matchup, a 57-51 loss against Lebanon on the 15th.
