Softball Recap: Triton Trojans vs. Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles
Triton had lost 21 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-22 to make it 22. They took a 17-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2015.
Alicia Gonzales was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
As for Elkhart Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-11 record this season. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.
On Elkhart Christian Academy's side, Brianna Ehninger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. Ehninger has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. In other batting news, Ryleigh Viront and Kiara Trovatore did most of the damage at the plate: Viront went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Trovatore got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Viront a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mia Hiler, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Triton will welcome Winamac at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
