Wewahitchka and Malone are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wewahitchka Gators will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Malone Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Wewahitchka knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Malone likes a good challenge.
Last Monday, Wewahitchka was able to grind out a solid victory over Vernon, taking the game 15-12. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Yellowjackets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Walker Bailey made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Rhemy Patrick and Landon Whitten did most of the damage at the plate: Patrick scored two runs and stole Six bases. while going 2-for-3, while Whitten went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those six stolen bases gave Patrick a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakwavian Gray, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.
Wewahitchka hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while it was Malone who put the first points on the board on Thursday, it was Poplar Springs who put up more. Malone fell just short of Poplar Springs by a score of 5-4. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kris Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Khalil Garrett was another key player, getting no hits from his three at bats.
Wewahitchka's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.3 runs over those games. As for Malone, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wewahitchka has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Malone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wewahitchka took their win against Malone in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0. Does Wewahitchka have another victory up their sleeve, or will Malone turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
