Baseball Recap: Eaton Comes Up Short

Eaton and Montezuma-Cortez squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Eaton had to settle for second. They fell 9-5 to the Panthers. The Reds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Liam Whalen put in work while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Whalen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Nider, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Eaton and nudges their season record down to 20-8. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.

Eaton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they will square off against Resurrection Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
