Baseball Recap: Weir Gets the Win

Weir hadn't done well against John Marshall recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Red Riders narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Monarchs 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Riders have posted since April 23rd.

Mathew Geer and Nick DiMatteis did most of the damage at the plate: Geer went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while DiMatteis went 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Weir is undefeated when DiMatteis posts two or more runs, but 8-16 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleks Zanieski, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Weir moved to 15-16 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for John Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9.

Coming up, Weir will be playing in front of their home fans against Tyler at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. John Marshall does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
