Football Recap: Farwell Steers vs. New Deal Lions
Farwell had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. The game between them and the New Deal Lions wasn't particularly close, with the Farwell Steers falling 34-20. The Steers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Deal to victory, but perhaps none more so than David Aguirre, who picked up 189 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown. Aguirre's longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards. Treven Cooper was another key back, rushing for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Farwell will take on Texico at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for New Deal, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
