Baseball Game Preview: Havelock Rams vs. East Carteret Mariners

The Havelock Rams will take on the East Carteret Mariners at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Havelock has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while East Carteret will arrive with 19 straight victories.

Havelock lost 11-1 to D.H. Conley on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, while East Carteret put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for New Bern Christian Academy. The Mariners were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over New Bern Christian Academy. The Mariners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Tanner Wade was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Jonathan Piner was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024. Jacob Grimm was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

East Carteret always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Bern Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .211.

East Carteret's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-0. As for Havelock, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Havelock skirted past East Carteret 5-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Mariners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
