Basketball Game Preview: Borger Bulldogs vs. Stratford Elks

Borger is 0-3 against Stratford since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. Both will round out the year against one another at at 9:00 a.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Borger took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Dumas with points to spare, taking the game 53-34. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Stratford came tearing into Friday's matchup with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 43-35 victory over the Longhorns. Given the Elks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Longhorns are ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Stratford's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.3 points per game. As for Borger, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-10.

Borger took a serious blow against Stratford in their previous matchup back in December of 2020, falling 56-25. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Borger was down 32-10.
