Baseball Recap: Ponderosa Takes a Loss

Monday just wasn't the day for Ponderosa's offense. They fell just short of the Chaparral Wolverines by a score of 2-0 on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Mustangs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Nick Moe was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ponderosa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Korth, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Korth's first of the season.

Ponderosa's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-5. As for Chaparral, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Ponderosa will welcome Mountain Vista at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chaparral, they will head out on the road to challenge Fairview at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
