Baseball Recap: Kankakee Valley Gets the Win

Kankakee Valley let Tri-Township stack eight runs on them in the fifth inning on Saturday but luckily Kankakee Valley prevailed anyway. The Kougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 16-15 victory over the Tigers. The win continues a trend for the Kougars in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won six in a row.

Kankakee Valley got a massive performance out of Declan Murr, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Murr a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Smolek, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Kankakee Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Kankakee Valley now has a winning record of 7-6-1. As for Tri-Township, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Kankakee Valley will welcome Highland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Kougars are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Tri-Township, they are taking a road trip to square off against Morgan Township at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
