Elwood had lost 15 games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-20 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They won by a run and slipped past the Monroe Central Golden Bears 9-8. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Golden Bears on their field since May 8, 2017.

As for Monroe Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. They have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Monroe Central's part, Kyler Bogue was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Bogue is becoming a predictor of the Golden Bears' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 8-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Conner Baker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Elwood has already played their next game, an 11-3 loss against Alexandria-Monroe on the 13th. As for Monroe Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-4 defeat against Richmond on the 15th.
