Football Game Preview: Burlington Cougars vs. Yuma Outlaws

Burlington and Yuma are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Cougars will challenge the Outlaws at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burlington will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Burlington is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 52-23 win over Denver Christian. With the Cougars ahead 28-3 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Scout Humrich produced another solid performance rushing for 138 yards and five touchdowns on only eight carries. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 10 rushing touchdowns on the season. Jason Saucedo was another key back, rushing for 170 yards and one TD while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Burlington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 342 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 315 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Yuma played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Brush 36-7. The loss was the Outlaws' first of the season.

Burlington's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Yuma, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Burlington has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 377 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Yuma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 249 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Burlington beat Yuma 20-12 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Outlaws' Jonathan Thomson, who rushed for 133 yards and a pair of scores.
