Basketball Recap: Lincoln Takes a Loss

If Lincoln was feeling good fresh off their 61-16 takedown of Leon last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lincoln Trojans lost to the Booker T. Washington Wildcats on the road by a 64-46 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Wildcats are ranked 22nd).

When it comes to explaining why Lincoln lost, don't look at Jamiya Brown. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. The contest was Brown's 14th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Keeli Duncan, who posted seven points.

Even though they lost, Lincoln smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Booker T. Washington's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Burgos, who put up 16 points. The dominant performance gave Burgos a new career-high in points. Chamiah Francis was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Booker T. Washington, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Lincoln wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-21 win against Maclay on the 30th. As for Booker T. Washington, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Booker T. Washington Wildcats duke it out with the Pensacola Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pensacola is on a five-game streak of home wins, Booker T. Washington a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
