The La Porte Slicers will face off against the New Prairie Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: La Porte has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while New Prairie will arrive with three straight wins.
La Porte came up short against South Central on Thursday, falling 18-1.
La Porte saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shayla Sorg, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, New Prairie made easy work of Portage on Friday and carried off an 11-1 victory.
Ava Geyer made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kiera Strakowksi was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Addi Luther was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
New Prairie lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
La Porte's defeat dropped their record down to 12-16. As for New Prairie, their record now sits at 21-6.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Porte hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like New Prairie struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Porte might still be hurting after the 15-2 loss they got from New Prairie in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Slicers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
