Basketball Recap: Our Lady of the Rosary Lions vs. Cambridge Academy Cougars

This season hasn't been kind to the Our Lady of the Rosary Lions, who are still winless after their 12th match. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 35-11 walloping at the hands of Cambridge Academy on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Our Lady of the Rosary can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Cougars are ranked 123rd).

Jillian Mapes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cambridge Academy, scoring 19 points along with seven steals and two blocks. Mapes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Southerland, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.

Our Lady of the Rosary dropped their record down to 0-12 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.6 points per game. As for Cambridge Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Our Lady of the Rosary does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cambridge Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Laurens Academy will be looking to extend their current 20-game winning streak.
