Soccer Recap: Eldorado Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Eldorado and Sandia pushed the score to 8-1 the last time they played Sandia, but on Monday defenses reigned supreme. The Golden Eagles' defense stepped up to hand the Matadors a 2-0 shutout. Given Eldorado's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico soccer rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Sandia are ranked 30th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ava Lee and Sienna Montoya scored both of Eldorado's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 13 goals.

Eldorado pushed their record up to 11-1-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three matchups. As for Sandia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
