Softball Game Preview: Madison Central Indians vs. Pendleton County Wildcats

The Madison Central Indians will square off against the Pendleton County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Madison Central's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Saturday's struggle, when West Washington hitters got past them. The Indians won by a run and slipped past the Senators 11-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Indians' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Sydney Smith tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Devan Stewart, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Lindsey Colegrove was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Pendleton County made easy work of Bracken County on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. Considering the Wildcats have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Pendleton County is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Madison Central, their win bumped their record up to 17-5.

Madison Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Pendleton County when the teams last played back in April of 2022, winning 7-3. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
